You probably know Nike as the designer and manufacturer of sports wear and shoes but they also use technology to help promote a healthy lifestyle. Not only does this benefit the brand of Nike but it comes in handy for athletes who make use of their products. A popular tool in the runners arsenal is the Nike + Running App. Available for either Apple iOS (iPhone & iPods) as well as Android phones. By using the accelerometer and GPS positioning features on these devices, the Nike + Running App lets users track various metrics that runners use to set goals and measure performance. Runners can.choose whether the running activity is indoors or outdoors, provide music play-lists to run to, morale-boosting cheering happens when friends like your activity on Facebook and delivers audio updates on timed intervals.
Your running data is synced with Nike’s website (nikeplus.com), allowing you to view a summary of your progress in graph form in your web browser. The Challenge Me section pushes you to beat your own good scores and elevate your fitness level. The Nike + Running App is available at no charge from the Nike website but registration is required to make use of the support features such as the performance summaries and social media posting to Twitter or Facebook.
Nike also offers additional products based on similar technology.
